The Dematerialized Girl & Ich. Assemblage. CDMX, 2024.

I think this is my first almost fully ready-made assemblage. It’s something I could easily create in Mexico City, where there are so many cute items everywhere. Like these metal details—they're handmade, and later I saw many of them in the craft souvenir market. But the ones in the sculpture, I found in our Airbnb, along with the wooden object.

At first, I wanted to create an installation exploring the intersection of fragile materials. I assembled a tryout in my Airbnb living room studio (see last pics). There were two balls—one with water, one with air—but they both got holes, and one flooded our Airbnb while we were out. So, the main character became a cute purple trash bag (this kind of beauty you won’t find in Germany!).

All the girly elements were very inspired by CDMX, which is literally half pink. The girl got dematerialized thanks to articles from a Lufthansa board magazine. The piece became an altar to the girly trash bag—rejecting the value of a Roli (Rolex watch) and celebrating the grocery shopping trolley instead.

It’s adorned with pearls to stay chic and cute. There’s also a powerful goddess with a sword, whom I graced with a pearl wig. The wood element is significant, too. This kind of good-looking wood is everywhere in CDMX—you won’t see much IKEA MDF in interiors. The installation also connects to the classy hall of Covadonga restaurant, where the exhibition took place. I first saw the hall and then found the wooden piece in our Airbnb, and that’s how the installation developed.

It holds many souvenirs and important moments for me. So, even though it’s mostly a ready-made and no longer exists, it deserves this post. Hehe—go go, Dematerialized Girl!
